Jazz Middelheim is the ‘grande dame’ of Belgian jazz festivals. Since 1969, it presents a cross section of what’s happening in jazz. The unique concert at the idyllic festival site, Park Dan Brandt, ensures a unique experience that charms several generations of visitors.
Just like jazz itself, the festival evolved throughout the years. Jazz Middelheim is curious and wants to challenge you. It unites jazz in all its variety – from swinging big bands to avant-garde combos – and invites well-known heavyweights from other scenes as well. As such, the festival also attracts an audience that is new to jazz.
The Jazz Middelheim stage actively supports young and emerging artists, letting them try out new things. We organise master classes with international top musicians and give artists in residence free reign, so they can tell a story with different chapters. Because of our strong collaboration with the national broadcasting company (VRT), our projects reach a wide audience and have a strong impact on the Belgian jazz scene. If the Antwerp harbor lays the foundation for the region’s economic and social dynamics, then Jazz Middelheim provides the setting and means for a place where musicians, music lovers and bon vivants gather, and international guests easily feel at home.
